Annotated paper:Schiavo G, et al. "Tetanus and botulinum-B neurotoxins block neurotransmitter release by proteolytic cleavage of synaptobrevin" Nature. 1992 Oct 29;359(6398):832-5 PMID:1331807
Figure(s):Fig.1 and Fig.4
Annotation description:The authors used purified synaptic vesicles isolated from rat cerebral cortex and investigated the effect of treatment with tetanus and botulinum neurotoxins on them. They observed that both tetanus and botulinum neurotoxin B are able to cleave Vamp2 (Fig. 1). Also, they reported that neurotransmitter release is inhibited by injection of tetanus toxin to Aplysia (Fig.4). This inhibition can be delayed by injection of a peptide that contains the cleavage site of tetanus toxin.
