Annotation description: | The authors raised antibodies that recognize specific liprin alpha isoforms, and used these in confocal microscopy on cultured neurons. Specificity of the antibody is verified by western blot in HEK293 cells (Figure 2). Liprin a4 was found to colocalize to some extent with the presynaptic marker Bassoon (figure 11) and postsynaptic marker PSD-95 (Figure 12), suggesting a synaptic localization. There is a strong extrasynaptic, punctate component as well; and many Bassoon+ puncta do not contain Liprin a4. The synaptic liprin a4 levels are thus most likely low. Spangler et.al. used a different antibody, and also found a synaptic localization of liprin a4 using confocal microscopy. |
