"Ultrastructural immunolabeling shows prominent presynaptic vesicular localization of delta-opioid receptor within both enkephalin- and nonenkephalin-containing axon terminals in the superficial layers of the rat cervical spinal cord" J Neurosci. 1995 Sep;15(9):5976-88 PMID:7666182
Figure(s):Figure 3, 5a
Annotation description:The paper describes the subcellular localization of delta-type opioid receptors in the axon terminals of the cervical spinal cord.

Figure 3 and 5a shows that in axon terminals, immunoreactivity is localized to the membranes and lumen of dense-core vesicles (Fig. 3) at the peripheral
portion of the axon terminal, away from the synaptic specialization.
Figure 3A shows labelling at segments of the axonal plasma membrane.
Figure 3B and 5a show an axon terminal with immunoreactivity located along the dcv and a segment of the plasma membrane.
The paper reports that in axon terminals, immunoperoxidase could also be localized to membranes of numerous small clear vesicles.
