Subcellular fractionation and Western Blot with an isoform-specific antibody against beta-SNAP indicates that beta-SNAP is present in membrane and soluble fractions of synaptosomes (Fig.3).

Immunohistochemical analysis indicates the presence of betaSNAP predominantly in synapse-rich regions (e.g. stratum radiatum in the hippocampus, Fig. 4). Pre-embedding electron microscopy of tissue sections and crude synaptic membranes indicates the presence of beta-SNAP in presynaptic plasma membranes, but also postsynaptic densities (Fig. 5+6).

Isoform-specific anti-SNAP antibodies were raised to the sequence: C)SIQGDGEGDGDLK (anti-β-SNAP, residues 286-298 of β-SNAP). Immunoblotting analysis demonstrates the specificity of the antibody (Fig.1)
