| Annotation description: | The authors use siRNA to knock down AP180 in cultured rat hippocampal neurons. Using synaptobrevin pHlourin they find a defect in internalization of synaptobrevin. However, there is no defect in internalization of vGlut pHlourin. They thus argue that AP180 is not involved in synaptic vesicle endocytosis per se but in the sorting of synaptobrevin to synaptic vesicles. 27/5/3017 Pim Expert has selected term 'synaptic vesicle endocytosis (GO:0048488)', and state in the description field: "They thus argue that AP180 is not involved in synaptic vesicle endocytosis per se but in the sorting of synaptobrevin to synaptic vesicles.". AP180 is described in literature as an adapter protein involved in the selection of cargo for clathrin mediated endocytosis. These data show that AP180 does this for some (synaptobrevin), not all (VGlut) SV cargo's. Since synaptobrevin is a SV component I can agree to apply the term 'synaptic vesicle endocytosis (GO:0048488)' to it. In the definition of this term the aggregation of cargo adapters is part of the endocytosis process (so the "regulates...." box does not have to be checked). So, I agree to this annotation. |
