Annotation description:RIM1/RIM2 double knockout cultures have a reduction in the size of the sucrose pool at inhibitory synapses, demonstrating a role for RIM proteins in vesicle priming (fig 1c). This is mediated by activation of Munc13 through the Zinc finger domain (figures 3,4 5 and 6). Due to the strong homology between RIM1 and RIM2, both proteins are assumed to be redundant in this process. Action potential mediated pool measurements have confirmed a role in priming at the calyx of Held (Han et.al. 2011), and sucrose pool measurements in cultured neurons have confirmed this role at excitatory synapses (Kaeser et.al. 2011).
