Annotation description:Single, autaptic hippocampal Complexin-1 and -2 double knock-out (DKO) neurons exhibit a decrease in evoked release (EPSC amplitude; Fig. 2A, B; Table 1), but not in the readily-relasable pool size (sucrose response; Fig 2D, E; Table 1).

Complexin-1 and -2 can compensate for the loss of the respective other isoform in hippocampal autaptic neurons: Complexin-1 KO mice and Complexin-2 KO mice are viable and exhibit no deficits in evoked release (Fig 2B), whereas Complexin-1/2 DKO mice die a few hours after birth.

Complexin only regulates synaptic vesicle fusion, since the deficit in synaptic transmission can be rescued by elevating the extracellular calcium concentration (Fig. 5)
