| Annotation description: | Figure 5: shRNA knockdown of MKL1 (gene MRTFA) or MKL2 (gene MRTFB) in cultured cortical neurons resulted in a significant decrease in mushroom shaped dendritic spines (confocal imaging & morphology classification). The density of dendritic spines was not significantly affected. Figure 6: Double-knockout of MKL1 and MKL2 resulted in a more severe synapse maturation phenotype (stronger decrease in mushroom shaped synapses) and minor, but not statistically significant, reduction in spine density. |
