Annotation description:Figure 2: FGF22 knockout mice have impaired synapse maturation/differentiation.

Figure 3a-d: "Overexpression of FGF22 and FGF7 in cultured hippocampal neurons leads to an increase in the clustering of VGLUT1 and VGAT puncta, respectively, on the FGF-expressing neuron (Fig. 3a). This suggests that FGF22 and FGF7 specifically promote differentiation of glutamatergic and GABAergic presynaptic terminals, respectively, as target-derived molecules."

Figure 3e-j: immunofluorescence imaging of FGF22 in cultured hippocampal neurons showed co-localization with excitatory postsynapse marker protein PSD95 (DLG4). Same results for both overexpressed FGF22-EGFP and endogenous FGF22. FGF22 did not colocalize with inhibitory synapse marker proteins.
