Annotation description: | Figure 4, 10: immunogold-EM of the hippocampus and amygdala showed FAAH (fatty-acid amide hydrolase) localization to dendritic spines but not presynaptic terminals. Figure 12: immunogold-EM of the cerebellum showed (a minor subpopulation of) FAAH labelled axon terminals that formed synapses on FAAH-negative somata and dendrites. Figure 3: FAAH was not detectable in GABAergic interneurons. Figure 1: FAAH antibody specificity was verified by immunostaining hippocampal sections from FAAH-KO mice. Authors discussed the overall localization of FAAH; "As expected from its structure, FAAH may be located on the cytoplasmic surface of membranes. However, quite unexpectedly, the enzyme was primarily associated with intracellular membranes, including smooth endoplasmic reticulum cisternae and the external surface of the mitochondria, but not with the plasma membrane." |
