Annotation description: | CRMP1 is essential for Sema3A-induced changes in dendritic spine morphology in vitro "To investigate whether CRMP1 is involved in mediating Sema3A-induced changes in spine morphology, we used crmp1+/- and crmp1-/- cultured cortical neurons. In the cultured cortical neurons from crmp1+/- mice, Sema3A treatment increased the density of synapsin I and PSD-95 clusters at actin-rich protrusions on dendritic processes (Fig. 3A,B), consistent with our previous finding with wild-type cultured cortical neurons (Morita et al., 2006). In contrast, Sema3A did not alter the density of clusters of synapsin I and PSD-95 in crmp1-/- cortical neurons (Fig. 3A,B). Sema3A also increased the cluster size of synapsin I and PSD-95 in crmp1+/- neurons (Fig. 3A,B). In the absence of Sema3A, the size of synapsin I and PSD-95 clusters in crmp1-/- neurons was significantly larger than that in crmp1+/- neurons (*p < 0.01)." |
