Annotation description:"We then collected primary neurons from homozygous and heterozygous knockout mice that lacked the gene encoding Zdhhc8 (Zdhhc8-/- and Zdhhc8+/-), as well as their WT (Zdhhc8+/+) littermates11. We found that compared to neurons from WT mice (n = 12), the number of mushroom spines (but not other spine morphotypes or filopodia) in Zdhhc8+/- and Zdhhc8-/- neurons were reduced by 40% (n = 12, P < 0.0001) and 43(n = 12, P < 0.0001), respectively.
...
In control experiments, we confirmed that the observed reduction in spine density and number of excitatory synaptic contacts is a direct effect of reduced Zdhhc8 PAT activity (see Suppl. Data, Suppl. Figs. 1b and 3)."
