Annotation description:Figure 2c: Adult mouse hippocampal sections were singly stained with rabbit polyclonal anti-l-afadin, followed by immunoelectron microscopy with the silver-enhanced immunogold method. Afadin (AFDN) was detected on both the pre- and post-synaptic plasma membrane facing the synaptic cleft.
"It is therefore likely that at puncta adherentia junctions of these synapses, nectin-1 and -3 form a hetero-trans-dimer that is associated with l-afadin on both sides of the junctions."
