Annotation description: | The inherent lipophilicity of endocannabinoids (eCBs) limits their transport across aqueous compartments, including the cytosol and synaptic cleft. Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are chaperones that facilitate the intracellular trafficking of eCBs to their respective catabolic enzymes and nuclear receptors (see also PMID:19307565). Figure 1, 2: pharmacological inhibition of FABP5 abolishes both phasic and tonic endocannabinoid-mediated control of excitatory synaptic transmission in the dorsal raphe nucleus. Figure 4: genetic deletion of FABP5 also abolishes phasic and tonic Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) signaling. |
