Figure(s):Figure 1, 2, 3
Annotation description:Figure 1b: in a series of biochemical fractions from mouse brain, transmembrane protein Elfn1 was enriched in PSD and synaptic membrane fractions.

Figure 1j: Double immunofluorescence staining of the hippocampal CA1 and DG regions for Elfn1 and mGluR1a (GRM1) showed partial overlap and confirmed postsynaptic spine localization for Elfn1.

Figure 2a: postsynaptic Elfn1 recruits presynaptic mGluR7 (GRM7). Overexpression of GFP-Elfn1 strongly increased mGluR7 intensity in dissociated hippocampal neurons.

Figure 2c: Triple immunolabeling of endogenous Elfn1, mGluR7 (GRM7) and Vglut1 in untransfected hippocampal neurons at DIV51. mGluR7 signals overlapped with Vglut1 and were adjacent to Elfn1 signals.

Figure 3: Elfn1 binds mGluR7 (GRM7) in knockout controlled reverse-immunoprecipitation.

Additional literature:Elfn1 is expressed in hippocampal oriens-lacunosum moleculare interneurons. Confocal imaging of immunofluorescence labeling for Elfn1 and PSD-95 (DLG4) in cultured hippocampal neurons from mice showed co-localization at dendritic puncta. No co-localization was observed when co-staining Elfn1 and gephyrin (GPHN). Postsynaptic Elfn1 regulates release probability at CA1-O-LM synapses. @ PMID:23042292
