Annotated paper:Vanevski F, et al. "HuD interacts with Bdnf mRNA and is essential for activity-induced BDNF synthesis in dendrites" PLoS One. 2015 Feb 18;10(2):e0117264 PMID:25692578
Figure(s):Fig. 1
Annotation description:Fig. 5: HuD (ELAVL4) co-localises with Bdnf mRNA in hippocampal cultures transfected with recombinant GFP-mHuD at 14 DIV and stained using antisense probe against Bdnf. Furthermore knock-down of endogenous HuD in rat hippocampal cultures blocked the ability of PKC activation to increase dendritic translation of mRNAs with the long Bdnf 3' UTR.

- Accepted in SynGO because BDNF is a synaptically active compound: "Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is an important molecule involved in learning and memory in the adult brain, with demonstrated roles in regulating synaptic plasticity [1-3]. "

Additional literature:Table 1S: The protein was detected in MS in mouse (M. musculus; 6-8-week-old 129 Strain) and zebrafish (D. rerio; adult male and females) whole brain synaptosomal preparations. @ PMID:28252024

Table T1: protein reproducibly detected in mouse synaptosome preparation. @ PMID:25211037

Fig. 1: Immunofluorescence on hippocampal primary neurons DIV14 showed localisation of HuD (ELAVL4) in post-synaptic compartments.
The figure showed also co-localisation of HuD with eIF4E and PABP, HuD takes part in the translational complex at synapses. @ PMID:18769135

electrophysiology experiment in mice over-expressing HuD, the results were: "Electrophysiological analyses of the mossy fiber to CA3 synapse of HuD-Tg mice revealed increases in paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) at short interpulse intervals and no change in long-term potentiation (LTP).
