Figure(s):Figure 7, 8
Annotation description:The AP2 adaptor complex mediates clathrin-dependent endocytosis of proteins localized to the cell membrane (PMID:21779028). The alpha-adaptin subunit, C. elegans gene apa-2 with mammalian orthologs AP2A1 and AP2A2 (both abundantly expressed in mammalian synapses, c.f. other SynGO annotations), is a core part of this protein complex (PMID:12086608).

Figure 7, supplement 1: α-adaptin (apa-2) colocalizes with synaptobrevin in C.elegans at synapses in the dorsal nerve cord of GABA motor neurons.

Figure 8: α-adaptin (apa-2) mutants show endocytic defects in acetylcholine neuromuscular junctions in the ventral nerve cord of C.elegans, as observed by reduced SV numbers, increased SV diameter and an increased number of large vesicles.

Figure 8, supplements: Synaptic vesicles are reduced at GABA synapses in α-adaptin (apa-2) mutants and α-adaptin μ2-adaptin double mutants.
