Annotation description:Figure 7: Protein 4.1B (EPB41L3) enhances synaptic localization of NMDARs in cultured hippocampal neurons.

surface-expressed NMDARs were labeled with GFP-tagged NR2B. shRNA knockdown of protein 4.1B (EPB41L3) reduced surface NR2B and overexpression of 4.1B resulted in enhanced localization of GFP-NR2B at synapses. This effect was specific to the FERM domain of 4.1B.

Authors suggest that "protein 4.1B plays an important role in the delivery of NMDAR subunits to synapses in hippocampal neurons, and that the FERM domain through which it may interact with SynCAM1 is necessary for this function."
