Annotated paper:Canela L, et al. "The neuronal Ca(2+) -binding protein 2 (NECAB2) interacts with the adenosine A(2A) receptor and modulates the cell surface expression and function of the receptor" Mol Cell Neurosci. 2007 Sep;36(1):1-12 PMID:17689978

Annotation description:"we here shown that NECAB2 immunoreactivity was distributed in the cytoplasm of striatal neurons, and never labeled the nucleus of the cell (Fig. 6A), as previously demonstrated by light microscopy (Figs. 5B and C).

Immunoreactivity for NECAB2 was also found both at postsynaptic sites, filling dendritic shafts and spines (Figs. 6B and C), and at presynaptic sites, filling axon terminals (Fig. 6D).

Using the pre-embedding immunogold method, immunoparticles labeling NECAB2 were observed in the cytoplasm, dendritic shafts and spines of striatal neurons, either associated to the endoplasmic reticulum and/or intracellular vesicles, but also showing a cytosolic pattern with no apparent association with those organelles (Figs. 6E, F and G).

Furthermore, immunoparticles were found associated to the extrasynaptic plasma membrane of dendritic spines and shafts, as well as to axon terminals at presynaptic sites (Figs. 6H, I and J). This precise distribution of NECAB2 in striatal neurons resembles that described for adenosine A2A receptor (Ciruela et al., 2006)." PMID:16481441
