| Annotation description: | Subcellular distribution of KCTD16 was assessed in pre-embedding immunoelectron microscopy (Figure 2b) and in immunolabelling of freeze-fracture replicas of the hippocampal CA1 region (Figure 2c). Both techniques localized the anti-KCTD16 immunoreactivity to the plasma membrane of presynaptic and postsynaptic compartments of principal cells that were also stained by anti-GABAB1. Immunogold particles were most abundant at the extrasynaptic plasma membrane of dendritic spines and dendritic shafts of pyramidal cells, but also found at the presynaptic membranes of boutons of putative excitatory cells.
