Annotation description: | A knockout mouse line for PKA R1 beta is used to study its role in synaptic plasticity. It is shown that long term depression (LTD) at the schaffer collaterals is severely reduced in this mouse line. This demonstrates a role for R1 beta in LTD. LTD is a postsynaptic process, requiring the endocytosis of AMPA receptors (Beattie et. al.). The exact mechanisms by which PKAs act in LTD is not understood, but requires phosphorylation of GluR1 (Man et.al.). |
