Figure(s):Fig6 and 7, Table 1
Annotation description:Fig 6 shows selective presynaptic labeling of GAP-43 using DAB precipitate as a marker (indicated by the arrows) which can be observed near the plasma membrane and near synaptic vesicles. Panel A-D is rat material, E is cat.
Fig 7 shows ultrastructural colocalization of GAP-43 (by DAB precipitate) and GABA (by conjugated gold) in presynaptic terminals. This colocalization is quantified in table 1.

On the antibody used: "A monoclonal antiserum (clone 9-1E12, Chemicon, Temecula, CA, USA; formerly from Boehr- inger Mannheim, and Roche, Indianapolis, IN, USA) was used to identify GAP-43. Characterisation of the antiserum and preab- sorption controls have been carried out by others (Zou et al., 1996) and by the manufacturer."

Additional literature:Fig2: This figure shows selective presynaptic labelling of GAP-43 in the superficial dorsal horn of rats, using immuno-gold labeling in EM. The labeling looks more clear in this reference, but is only qualitative. The lead reference here has quantification. @ PMID:9303528
