Annotation description:Fig 6A shows that theta burst stimulation induces LTP in the Schaffer collateral pathway (Test) not in the control pathway (ctrl). The LTP is absent in the EAAC1 knockout mouse (Fig 6C, D), and can be restored by Ifenprodil (Fig 6E, F), an NR2B-NMDA receptor antagonist. This indicates that EAAC1 limits NR2B NMDA receptor activation (see Fig 5), and modulation of this activation is affecting TBS LTP. Incubating the WT slice in DHK, a specific GLT-1 blocker, did not affect LTP, showing that this effect is specific for EAAC1 transporters and not extended to other glutamate transporters.
