Annotation description: | This publication provides some evidence that RIMBP1 (a gene product of BZRAP1) is involved in tethering calcium channels to release sites. RIMBP1/2 double knockout reduces synaptic transmission in cultured neurons (figure 2) and the calyx of held (figure 3). The remaining synaptic transmission displayed slowed kinetics (figure 4) and was sensitive to the slow calcium chelator EGTA (figure 7). This suggests an increased distance between calcium channels and the calcium sensor for vesicle fusion. This role of RIMBP1 in this process is inferred from sequence homology with RIMBP2 and the prominent brain expression of both genes. The RIMBP1 single knockout has not been studied. It should also be noted that Grauel et.al. (2016) did not detect a difference between the RIMBP2 KO and RIMBP1/2 double knockout. The exact contribution of of RIMBP1 is thus unknown. |
