Annotation description: | Fig.1: "Ultrastructural localization of endogenous Rab5 in CA1 neurons of rat hippocampus." - " Most synaptic Rab5 immunolabeling was found in the postsynaptic terminal (~75%; Figure 1A, arrows; Figure 1B, "POST"). Furthermore, we found that postsynaptic Rab5 labeling was predominantly located outside of the postsynaptic density (PSD) on lateral extrasynaptic membranes (Figure 1B, "Memb."), roughly 100-300 nm away from the edge of the PSD (Figure 1C). This localization fits well with "endocytic hotspots" previously described lateral to the PSD (Blanpied et al., 2002; Petralia et al., 2003; Racz et al., 2004)." Note: the imaging data by itself does not resolve the endocytic zone. The rest of the paper shows a role of Rab5 in AMPAR endocytosis and the localization lateral of the PSD is suggestive of the postsynaptic endocytic zone. |
