Annotation description:The authors show that slow KAR-mediated postsynaptic responses in MF-CA3 synapses are mediated by GluK2/GluK5 heteromers via sensitivity to UBP310, a compound that was first to be selective for GluK1 or GluK3 containing KARs only. Authors show that UBP310 is an antagonist of GluK2/GluK5 heteromers and not of GluK2 homomeric KARs in a heterologous system. Via activity of the UBP310 compound in GluK1 or GluK3 KO animals the action of UBP310 on GluK2/GluK5 heteromers and not GluK1 or GluK3 containing KARs is confirmed.

Note: Of Gluk5 is it known that it is unable to form functional homopentameric KARs. It is known to form GluK2/GluK5 heteropentamers that represent a large portion of all KAR-mediated responses in the mammalian brain.
