Annotation description:Costaining in neurons for the synaptic vesicle marker protein synaptophysin and syntaxin 13 shows significant colocalization for both proteins. This suggests that the early endosomal SNARE syntaxin 13 is localized to presynaptic compartments. Therefore, the authors perform subcellular fractionation of rat brain, followed by immunoblotting and immunoEM on purified SVs with antibodies against SV marker proteins and syntaxin 13. In line with the findings of Takamori et al (2006, Cell), syntaxin 13 shows enrichment in the SV fraction as compared to the other fractions. In addition, the immunoEM shows the presence of syntaxin 13 on a subset of the vesicles.
