Ontology domain:Biological Process
SynGO term:modulation of chemical synaptic transmission (GO:0050804)
Synapse type(s):hippocampus, glutamatergic
Annotated paper:Tang L, et al. "A role for the cadherin family of cell adhesion molecules in hippocampal long-term potentiation" Neuron. 1998 Jun;20(6):1165-75 PMID:9655504
Figure(s):Fig.4, 6
Annotation description:Fig.6-8 The use of HAV peptides were shown by the authors to disrupt the homophilic interactions between specific cadherin subtypes. Infusion of N-cad HAV peptides does not alter basal synaptic signal transduction, but interferes with LTP induction (not maintenance) with different protocols. N-cad HAV peptides do not interfere with PPI, NMDAR EPSPs or postsynaptic depolarization mechanisms.
