Annotation description: | CPT1C is a multipass membrane protein (uniprot Q8BGD5 or F1LN46, mouse and rat) expressed in pyramidal neurons (not astrocytes) of the hippocampus (Figure 1A). CPT1C is unique from the other two CPT1 isoforms due to its brain-specific expression and localization to the ER instead of the mitochondria. Distinct from the other two CPT1 isoforms (which localize to the outer mitochondrial membrane), the brain-specific CPT1C isoform localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) in cultured hippocampal neurons (Figure 1C-1D). Immunostaining of GFP-CPT1C in these cells shows CPT1C is present in the cell body and dendrites (both shaft and spines, Figure 1B). Several other studies in heterologous cells confirm the localization of CPT1C to the ER and not the mitochondria. |
