At P10 VAChT labeled presynaptic terminals overlap extensively with alpha-Bgtx staining. In cochlear hair cells the alphya-Btx staining is mediated by alpha9/alpha10 heteromeric nAHCRs.

Rapsyn, a component of the muscle postsynaptic specialization, binds and mediates aggregation of alpha-Bgtx (=alpha9/alpha10 heteromeric nAHCRs) in non-neuronal cells. This is another indirect indication of localization of alpha9/alpha10 heteromeric nAHCRs to the cholinergic postsynaptic specialization.
