Annotation description:Background: The nACHR epsilon subunit is expressed during fetal development and are replaced gradually by the nAChR gamma subunit. This paper proposes this idea for the first time.

Fig.1+2: nAChRs expressed in oocytes that contain the epsilon or the gamma subunit display difference (in combination with the alpha1, beta1 and delta subunits) in their gating properties.
Table 1: Comparison of single channel properties in fetal and adult muscle show differences in single channel properties that resemble properties of nAChRs that contain the epsilon or the gamma subunit expressed in oocytes.
Fig.4: The epsilon and gamma nACHR subunits are differentially expressed in a fetal to adult muscle tissue. This shows that there is a developmental switch from the epsilon to the gamma subunit containing receptor subtype. This observation matches the Ephys observations in oocytes and fetal/adult muscle tissue.
