Annotation description: | This study used a transgenic mouse model to test synaptic roles of SynCAM 1. Figs. 2A,B and 2F,G show that the overexpression of SynCAM 1 in excitatory neurons in vivo is sufficient to increase the number of excitatory synapses and of dendritic spines, a morphological correlate of excitatory synapses. The results in Fig. 5E demonstrate that this increase is lost when SynCAM 1 overexpression is turned off. These results support an instructive role of SynCAM 1 in the induction of excitatory synapses. |
