Annotation description: | In this study, Wong et al use quantum dot labelled brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in order to study its trafficking in hippocampal neuron cultures (see Fig. 1). The authors show that QD-BDNF is preferentially stored at postsynaptic sites in cultured neurons and that in response to synaptic activity and AMPA and NMDA receptor activation, postsynaptic endosomal BDNF can be exocytosed. Furthermore, postsynaptic endosome exocytosis is suggested to take place at syt 6 positive sites and to be impaired by syt 6 knockdown (Fig 4,5 and Fig 8 for a model). |
