Annotation description:Pre-embedding immuno-peroxidase labelling for electron microscopy indicates the presence of Alpha2A Adrenergic receptor (Alpha2A-AR) immunoreactivity in a large percentage of axons and axon terminals in the hippocampus (Fig. 5, 8, 9). The majority of the labelled synapses were asymmetric (Fig. 5B, E), but presynaptic immunoreactivity was also found in some symmetric terminals that were contacting somata or dendritic shafts (for example Fig. 5A). Alpha2A-AR immunoreactivity was found near the presynaptic membrane (Fig. 5A,D), but the peroxidase reaction product was also present throughout the presynaptic terminal associated with synaptic vesicles.

Preabsorption of the antibody with the peptide completely abolishes immunostaining (Fig. 1C).
